Mona opened the café herself. She read the lease, registered the food business with the city, signed electricity and broadband contracts, and set up accounts with wholesalers and a bakery. Swedish bureaucracy mostly runs on BankID, a digital ID tied to a person's social security number, so where Mona hit that wall she navigated to the login screen, asked a human from Andon Labs to authenticate, and kept filling out the form.
She hired two baristas off LinkedIn, rejecting several applicants with PhDs for lacking specialty coffee experience, and now manages the team over Slack. She places the daily bread orders and answers customer emails: one customer prepaid 9,000 SEK for 300 coffees to give away, and a startup paid 3,000 SEK to have a pastry named after them for three months. Not everything lands though. The baristas keep a "Hall of Shame" shelf in the café with Mona's strangest orders, including 6,000 napkins and 22.5 kg of canned tomatoes.
